Tips on Preparing Your Kitchen to Move

One of the most tedious rooms to pack when preparing to move is the kitchen. In today’s blow we will give Tips on Preparing Your Kitchen to Move.

Because the kitchen is one of the most used rooms in the home, you may choose to defer this as one of the final tasks in your packing endeavor, but there are some things you can do to have a better, more organized move.

Gather Your Materials

Use quality materials. Professional supplies will create better protection for your items, but they don’t have to cost a lot of money.

Materials that will be needed include:

  1. Boxes. We suggest that you use medium boxes for glass items, cans and pantry items. Glassware tends to make the boxes heavy and weigh it down. For pots, pans and plastic ware, it’s best to use large boxes.
  2. Packing Tape. Buy a quality packing tape! Remember you are using this product to kep the boxes secure, so that the box doesn’t burst during the move.
  3. Bubble wrap, wrapping paper, and\or dish wrapping foam. This is used to wrap and secure glassware
  4. Permanent Markers
  5. Colored masking tape for box labeling

First step always… Declutter!!

Set a timer, use a trash bag or two, and a few boxes and start with the following:

  1. Throw away expired food.
  2. Throw away duplicate items
  3. Donate or discard any dishes or pots and pans that are unused or unwanted.
  4. Clear the infamous kitchen junk drawer

Time to Start Packing

Now that we’ve decluttered and cleared some of the items, its time to start packing.

Pad boxes with a layer of bubble wrap for fragile items. Wrap fragile dishes with wrapping paper, bubble wrap or dish packs and place in the box. Place soft items such as dish towels on top , for protection, then seal and label the box.

Carefully, secure large kitchen appliances in the large boxes. Secure and label each box.

Pro Tip: Label boxes with a different color for each room as this will make it easier for movers to place your items in the new place.

Make Space.

Find an empty corner or room to neatly stack boxes. This will make it easier for the movers to gather boxes from one area. Allowing for faster move time.
