After releasing preliminary plans in 2015, and still unfinished, many are wondering if the Katy Boardwalk District Project is a failure.
The district is located off Kingsland and Prarie Parkway, with easy access to Grand Parkway, Typhoon Texas, and Katy Mills Mall.

Initially, the Katy Boardwalk District project was to include a 73,000 sq ft conference center, 204,000 sq ft hotel, 250,000 office space, and residential space by GracePoint Homes. (article Houston Business Journal 01/2015)
March 2018 update
The boardwalk project was underway with the completion of roads, and walking trails around the 90-acre lake. At the time, the project planned for 650 modern loft residences, 145,000 sq ft of commercial space, 60,000 sq ft of retail space, a conference center, and a hotel. At the time, the estimated completion time would take 10 years. (Houston Business Journal 03/2018)
December 2018 update
Developers were to break ground on the residential aspect of the project in January 2019.
January 2019 update
It was announced the hotel project would be Hyatt Regency Katy Boardwalk Hotel & Conference Center, with an intended open date of fall 2021. (Paper City Mag 01/2019)
September 2021 update
In early 2022, the first tenants of the Katy Boardwalk Project were expected to be announced. (Houston Business Journal 09/2021)
November 2021 update
Boardwalk Lofts, one of the Katy Boardwalk District’s first phase projects opened on November 11, 2021. The complex offers 319 units with 16 different floor plans with one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. (Houston Chronicle 11/2021).
August 2022 update
Construction started in Phase 2 of the outer loop trail, which included 1.5 miles of trails paved with natural landscape, wood-type paths and a steel pedestrian bridge, completion of this section was to be completed by the summer of this year (2023). (Community Impact 08/2022)
